Accused murderers remanded

Gaighat, April 13

District Court Udayapur today sent to prison three persons who were indicted for the murder of a security guard at Sunrise Bank on the premises of Udayapur Cement Industry more than a year ago.

Thirty-nine-year-old Tika Prasad Dhamala of Triyuga-11, Jaljale; and Prem Dorje Sherpa, 34, and Arbind Bogati, 37, of Triyuga-10, Deuri; have been remanded to prison in connection with their alleged involvement in the murder of bank guard Prem Baniya.

The fifty-one-year-old guard from Triyuga-8, Bagaha was murdered on the night January 2, 2015 while he was on duty at the Sunrise Bank branch based on the premises of the cement industry.

According to DSP Om Rana of district police office of Udayapur, the murder was linked to an abortive bank heist.

“In fact, they were there to rob the bank that night, but when their plan failed, they feared their identity would be revealed and so they ended up abducting the bank guard and killing him,” said DSP Rana, adding that Baniya’s throat had been slit.

Further, identifying four persons’ hand in the incident, Rana said they were yet to arrest the next one. Bibek Thapa, who is also said to be involved in the murder, is still at large.

A joint taskforce formed by incorporating personnel from the police headquarters, regional police office and the district police office had arrested the three murderers 415 days after the murder was committed.
