Action plan for controlling VAW cases stressed

KATHMANDU: Various speakers have laid emphasis on the action plan for checking cases on violence against women (VAW) taking place in Kathmandu Valley.

Addressing a programme organised by Metropolitan Police Sector, New Bus Park, after a rally against human trafficking and sexual harassment here today, Chief of Metropolitan Police Range, Kathmandu, Bishworaj Pokharel said that support of general people was necessary for the transformation of society as contribution of police sector alone was not enough.

He further stressed that collective support of all was essential to control VAW as such cases are increasing day by day.

Similarly, Mayor of Tokha Municipality, Prakash Adhikari, expressed his concerns about increasing cases of human trafficking and sexual abuse in Bus Park area, adding that the Municipality would move ahead joining hands with the police to bring an end to it.

Likewise, Chairperson of Community Service Centre, Gongabu, Shailesh Karki pointed out the need of support from all the sectors in minimising the VAW in order to transform the society, while Sector Chief Pratap Poudel clarified that the Sector organised the rally in coordination with various Gongabu area-based organisations, working for the welfare of women to stop human trafficking and activities related to sexual violence.

The rally saw a massive participation from more than 1,000 people.
