Agriculture Knowledge Centre established

SAPTARI: An Agriculture Knowledge Centre has been established in Rajbiraj by the Ministry of Land Management, Agriculture and Cooperatives of Province 2 to provide services to farmers of Saptari and Siraha districts.

Minister for Land Management, Agriculture and Cooperatives of the province, Shailendra Prasad Sah, inaugurated the Centre on Wednesday, directing the officials to concentrate on farmers’ issues.

The Centre was established by renaming the District Agriculture Development Office with extended areas of intervention but reduced number of staff.

On the occasion, Province Minister Sah promised to extend support to the Centre. He added that it should provide best possible services to the farmers, and that the officials must be answerable if no result was visible within three months.

He asked the officials to end the game of commission while calling for tenders to purchase chemical fertilizer, adding that the fertilizer should be made available to the farmers in Saptari and Siraha on time.

Meanwhile, Minister Sah also inaugurated the Livestock Service Experts’ Liaison Office in Siraha district.

On the occasion, Minister Sah said that the province government had established six Agriculture Knowledge Centres and equal number of Livestock Service Experts’ Liaison Offices in the province to provide services to farmers in an accessible manner.

With the establishment of the Liaison Office, experts would provide training to the farmers to modernise and mechanise agriculture and pastoral farming, and ensure commercialisation.
