Allow EC to announce poll dates: CEC Yadav

Damauli, July 13

Chief Election Commissioner Ayodhee Prasad Yadav today said the Election Commission should be allowed to announce dates for all levels of polls.

Inaugurating a newly-constructed building of District Election Office, Tanahun, in Damuali, Yadav said election dates should be mentioned in the law and commission should be given the power to announce poll dates.

“Since the Cabinet decides dates for elections, the EC has failed to hold polls on time,” he added. He claimed that the Election Commission had enough human resources to hold polls within 60 days after the announcement of poll dates.

Yadav said the EC was busy preparing organisational structure, managing manpower, reviewing the past polls and collecting voter lists from all 77 districts. He advised the political parties to include women representatives in line with the constitutional provisions.

EC Tanahun office was constructed at the cost of Rs 14.8 million.
