At least 16 persons killed in Dadeldhura bus accident

KATHMANDU: At least sixteen persons have lost their lives and more than two dozens have been injured in a bus accident at Raduwa in Amargadi-11 of Dadeldhura district on Thursday, police said.

Among the deceased, ten died on the spot while six other persons succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment at Dadeldhura District Hospital.

According to police, the over-crowded bus (Se 1 Ta 293) was en route to Doti from Dadeldhura this afternoon.

Meanwhile, locals and police have been carrying out a rescue operation.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Dambar Bahadur KC at the DPO said, the ill-fated bus of Peacezone Bidya Niketan School was ferrying revellers returning home after attending a fair at Ugratara Temple in the area.

Road accidents are common in Nepal due to pathetic road conditions, poorly maintained vehicles, mountain roads, lack of yearly vehicle inspection system by the government, poor execution of traffic rules, and sheer negligence of drivers.
