Bajura landslip victims left in the lurch

Purna Luwar’s family of seven has been left without a roof after a landslide struck their home one-and-a-half months ago.

Since then, the family has been taking shelter in a makeshift tent with three oxen at Bathanlekh of Badimalika Municipality-4, Bajura.

Luwar shared that all the fifteen displaced families of the village were living in a single tent shared with their livestock.

Another victim Dev BK said women, children and elderly had started falling prey to seasonal diseases as they were sharing tents with livestock.

The landslide had left as many as 188 families of Jilli, Badimalika VDC-9 and Rajali VDC-4 without homes. Some of the displaced from other places are taking shelter in tents while others have returned home as the monsoon rain beat them.

The victims have demanded that people from four villages be relocated as the lands have developed large cracks.

Chairman at NGO Federation of Nepal, Bajura Chapter Kashi BK said they had reported the issue to the District Disaster Rescue Committee requesting for relocation of settlements hit by landslide.

As many as 18 VDCs are at high risk of landslides in the district.
