Bajura locals find jobs at home thanks to DDC

BAJURA: Khadak Sunar of Toli in Bajura district spent more than 14 years in neighbouring country India to earn money due to lack of opportunities in his place.

But for two years, he has been staying in his village, working in local development projects.

Of late, with the rise of development works in the village, employment opportunities have also increased in the district.

"I did not earn well in India," the Dalit man said, "But, here I am able to earn Rs 700 per day. Now I am living with his family while the village is also developing," informed Khadak.

Similarly, Jamuna Sunar of the same village said that the frequent visits of her husband to India for jobs had also stopped as both of them got the job in their own village.

Currently, the District Development Committee (DDC) is running a project in the village under the Rural Access Programme (RAP).

According to Subas Bikram Thapa, Office Manager of  RAP, more than 900 people have got job opportunities in their own village for the RAP.

Thapa further said the opportunities have increased due to the use of human labour instead of dozers in road projects.

Different development works in the district have lowered the number of people approaching to India for employment.

Mostly people from Dalit community used to visit the bordering county to earn money. However, with the increase of opportunities, the number has decreased informed, Kasi BK, a Dalit leader.

An official at the DDC, Nir Bahadur Shahi, informed that the development works have decreased migration of people to the foreign land.
