Baksila reeling under water crunch

Khotang, April 28

With local water sources running dry, residents of Buddha Bazaar in northern Baksila Village Development Committee, Khotang, are reeling under acute water shortage.

“Earlier, there was a water source with which we were making do, but ever since that source went dry, we are having a hard time,” said Samir Rai, a local. “We’re now fetching water in tractors from Halkum and other faraway places,” added Rai, who rued the apathy of the concerned authorities to address the water woes of around 200 households in Baskila.

There is a drinking water project but it is useless.

“Everything was fine after the project came into operation last year, but over time the taps starting running less water and it’s been about a month now that not a single drop of water has come from the taps,” said Baksila-Sapteshwor Drinking Water Project Consumers’ Committee Secretary Roshan Shrestha.

According to Shrestha, they are searching for a reliable water source to resolve the water crisis of the village.

Meanwhile, with water scarcity, problem of garbage and pollution has increased in Baksila.
