Baluwa Bazaar in Gorkha at risk of landslides, floods

GORKHA: Baluwa Bazaar at Simjung-9 in the district is at high risk of flooding as a section of the Daraudi River has been blocked following landslides on Monday night.

According to local people, they fear that floods from the river may advance towards the village housing more than 150 people and flood their settlements.

They also said that the blockage may also help trigger more landslips, adding to their fear.

Local resident Chandra Ghale said that the landslide is still continuing in the area. "I and other local people were shifted to a safer place with the help of police and we spent the whole night there awake," he said, adding that the affected people returned to the village the following morning.

He said that a settlement near Jholunge Basti has been displaced by the landslide as well. Inspector Resham Lal Regmi said that the affected people have been evacuated.
