Barsha Man Pun off to Bangkok for medical trip

KATHMANDU: CPN Maoist Centre leader and former minister Barsha Man Pun, who was recently admitted to the Grande International Hospital in Dhapasi after suffering from a bout of high fever, flew to Thai capital Bangkok for follow-up test and treatment for liver-related problems.

Pun is accompanied by his spouse -- House Speaker Onsari Gharti Magar -- and some of their kin, according to the Speaker's press advisor Babin Sharma.

Pun, who suffers from congenital hyperbilirubinemia, had high level of jaundice during the hospital stay in Kathmandu. Mild infection in lungs also was detected and he was treated accordingly, according to a doctor involved in his treatment.

Pun was discharged from the hospital today after fever was brought under control and sent to Bangkok for "regular follow-up", according to the hospital.

The former Maoist commander would visit Sukhumvit Samitivej Hospital in Bangkok, where he was admitted to in December 2015.

Pun and his kin boarded a regular flight to Bangkok.

The team does not include any medical doctor as Pun was "fit to fly", according to Binod Adhikari, Media Manager of the Grande International Hospital in Dhapasi of the Capital.

Pun was rushed to the hospital last week after reporting high fever.

In a statement issued in the afternoon, the Dhapasi-based facility had quoted its Medical Director Dr Chakra Raj Pandey as saying that Pun was discharged from the hospital and referred to the Sukhumvit Samitivej Hospital in Bangkok as “he was already late for a regular follow-up.”

A team of doctors, including Dr Arjun Karki, Dr Ravi Mahat, Dr Prashant Tripathi and Dr Vivek Sharma, were involved in Pun's treatment at the hospital.
