Big 3 leaders discuss impeachment, amendment, poll issues

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister and CPN Maoist Centre Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli on Wednesday sat together to discuss the issues of impeachment motion against the chief of Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority, Lok Man Singh Karki, and the Constitution amendment and implementation as well as holding fresh elections.

The three leaders -- for that matter the three major parties -- made an understanding to further discuss the issues, Deuba and Oli told the media, emerging from the meeting.

Likewise, a statement issued by the Prime Minister's Secretariat later said the top leaders held positive discussion today and would continue it.

The statement mentioned that the leaders said they would reach to a conclusion on the issues including the amendment and implementation of Constitution and the impeachment motion through agreement.

Talking to the media, Deuba pointed out that the implementation of Constitution was a prime issue and discussions would be held with the Madhesi parties.

The leaders parted their ways with an understanding to sit together for discussion again, according to Oli. "We held discussion on four issues... Discussion is on, we will sit together some other day for talks," he said.

While forming their alliance to oust the KP Sharma Oli-led government, the CPN Maoist Centre and the Nepali Congress had forged an agreement with the Madhesi parties to amend the Constitution and meet their demands. The amendment, however, has been delayed.

Meanwhile, the ruling CPN Maoist Centre, apparently without the knowledge of its coalition parnter Nepali Congressed, joined hands with the main opposition CPN-UML to bring in the impeachment motion against the CIAA chief.

The Parliament started deliberations on the impeachment motion yesterday.

Though the two Communist parties already decided to throw Karki, who they accused of running a parallel State and terrorising political leadership, through impeachment, Nepali Congress which is the largest party in the Parliament has bought time to make a decision.

The Nepali Congress leaders have saying that they would take an appropriate decision over the matter at the right time. The party's Central Working Committee has said the Parliamentary Party would discuss the matter and make a decision later.

Deuba said Nepali Congress would make decision on the impeachment motion after Karki gives clarification and the Impeachment Recommendation Committee sees the case.
