MAHENDRANAGAR: Police reportedly arrested a youth in possession of illegal modern firearm from Janakpur Sub-Metropolitan City-10 of Dhanusha district recently.

The arrestee has been identified as 22-year-old Suraj Sah Sonar, of Birgunj Metropolitan City-19 of Parsa district.

Acting on a tip-off, the District Police Office, Dhanusha, raided the room no 107 of the Apsara Hotel and Guest House, recovering a US-made automatic pistol loaded with three rounds of bullets, said Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Manoj Yadav of the DPO.

The firearm was hidden underneath a pillow in the room, according to DSP Yadav.

Police are yet to ascertain the Sonar's purpose of visit to the district and the motivation behind possessing the firearm.

The authorities are preparing to take necessary steps for legal action against Sonar under the Arms and Ammunition Act, 1962.
