Birgunj youth held with sodium sulphide

KATHMANDU: Armed Police Force arrested a youth in possession of 50 kilogram of suspicious chemical from Khaluwa Tol of Birgunj in Parsa district on Wednesday.

Identified as 20-year-old Jaya Prakash Sah of Manihari, Birgunj, the youth was ferrying hazardous chemical, apparently sodium sulphide, along with chicks on a bicycle from the Indian side to Nepal.

The Armed Police Force said Sah first claimed that the flakes were poultry feed but later confessed that they were of sodium sulphide.

Sodium sulphide is a chemical used in various industries, including textile and leather, as a reagent. But it can also be used to make chemical weapons, according to chemical journals.
