Bitumen plant padlocked

Jhapa, July 15

Cadre of the CPN-Maoist Centre’s sister wing Young Communist League Nepal, Jhapa, today padlocked a bitumen factory based in Durgapur of Kankai Municipality.

The plant run by Shiva Construction Service was also padlocked on July 6 by the then CPN-UML’s sister wing Youth Association. The padlock was opened after three days following an agreement that the produce from the plant would be sent for quality test. Now, the YCL has padlocked the plant accusing it of producing sub-standard material.

A team led by YCL Jhapa Vice-chairpersons Kumar Acharya and Ganesh Magar and Kankai Municipality Chairperson Kumar Raya had padlocked the bitumen industry.

They have vowed to continue with the padlock until the plant changes its ways. “There are a number of instances where the bitumen used in black-topping roads has come off right after the road construction, which is too much,” said Acharya.

Further, Acharya defended the action as an attempt to caution against sub-standard work.
