BDS, GAESO comment on Nepal Citizenship Bill

Kathmandu, December 7

The Blue Diamond Society and the Gurkha Army Ex-serviceman’s Organization (GAESO) were called by the Parliament State Affairs and Good Governance Committee today for their comment on Nepal Citizenship Bill.

The BDS led by Pinky Gurung commented that they were unhappy with a provision that required them to mention their gender as ‘others’ on their citizenship card.  “We have changed our gender as per our comfort. So, there should be a provision that allows us to change our name according to our situation,” Gurung said.

GAESO Chair Krishna Gurung said their children should be allowed to acquire citizenship by descent. He lamented that they had obtained citizenship by descent but their children couldn’t get the same citizenship. “The law should allow our children to get citizenship by descent,” he said.
