Boat capsize victims yet to get relief

The family of those who were killed after a boat capsized in the Lal Bakaiya River at Gaur Municipality have yet to get relief although Province 2 Chief Minister Lal Babu Raut had announced that each family would be provided Rs 200,000.

One-and-a-half months have passed since the incident. Five persons had lost their lives after the boat collided with an under-construction pillar of a bridge over the Lal Bakaiya River. Chief Minister Raut had reached the site two days after the incident and announced that the families of those killed in the incident would be provided Rs 200,000 each.

Ward-4 Chair Bhubaneshwor Shahi said the families of the boat capsize victims were visiting the ward office almost daily to inquire about the relief amount. He said that he had requested the families to visit the District Administration Office, Rautahat.

Meanwhile, Chief District Officer Govinda Prasad Rijal said the provincial government had not released the relief amount to be provided to the victims’ families.

As many as 29 people were on the boat when it capsized. Of them, 24 had swum to safety while the bodies of Runa Devi Patel of Ishanath Aauraiya, Shanti Devi Sah, Om Prakash Chandrabansi, Ushma Kumari Patel and Indu Devi Patel of Tikuliya, who had gone missing in the river, were found in India.
