‘Budget has laid base for federal set-up’

Dang, June 21

Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara today defended the government budget for the coming fiscal, saying the government’s plans and policies have given a strong foundation for federal structures.

Speaking at a press conference organised by Federation of Nepali Journalists in Ghorahi, Dang,  today, Mahara said, “Though it may appear that the federal budget is biased towards some district in terms of budgetary allocations, it’s not true. In fact, the budget of the federal government has rightly focused only on large projects, while sending budget meant for local projects to local levels directly,” he added.

Mahara spoke of initiatives to set up a depot to facilitate regular operation of the existing Tarigaun airport in Dang. “I’ve met people who doubt that the proposed new airport in Dang is meant to replace the existing airport in Tarigaun, but the proposed airport doesn’t seek to do this,” he clarified.

Further, admitting that there has been some confusion in the full implementation of federalism for want of necessary laws, Mahara informed that the Parliament was all set to form around 100 laws after the budget session. “Once the laws are made, the prevailing confusion regarding implementation of federalism will end,” he said.

Mahara, elected from Dang, Constituency 2, had come to his home district to learn about people’s complaints, problems and plans of people’s representatives.
