Candidates urged to address woes of landslide victims

Voters of Phalelung Rural Municipality in Panchthar have suggested visiting election candidates to pay attention to management of landslide victims in the district.

Candidates of the upcoming elections are reaching out to the public in the rural municipality with promises of ambitious electricity, road and drinking water projects.

The voters have also asked election candidates to introduce innovative programmes targeting local farmers.

Devi Prasad Nepal, a farmer,  was of the view that political parties and their candidates had so far failed to come up with electoral agenda that focused on local issues.

As many as five persons lost their lives and more than 200 families were displaced in landslides that occurred in Ward Nos 1, 3 and 6 of the rural municipality during the last monsoon.

Raj Kumar Limbu, a landslide victim, said they had not got further assistance after they were provided immediate relief by the rural municipality and the district disaster rescue committee, after the disasters.
