Child abductor nabbed

KATHMANDU: Police have arrested Manish Kumar Gupta of Janakpur on charge of involvement in the kidnapping of a two-year-old baby girl.

Sanigya, daughter of Dr Babita Shah, a doctor at Thapathali Maternity Hospital was abducted on January 25 and rescued the same day.

Police succeeded in tracking his hideout at Bhittamod of Mahottari and arrested him last night, said Kathmandu Police Range spokesperson Hobindra Bogati.

He will be brought to the capital and made public through a press meet today itself.

He allegedly picked up the girl from her Koteshwor-based home. Gupta's family in Janakpur received the ransom money on the same day after which he absconded, leaving the toddler in front of Tilganga-based Ganesh Hotel.

It has been learned that his wife, Archana Gupta, received the ransom in Janakpur. She was arrested on the very day and police has filed a case against her. She is currently in police custody.
