Child marriage, dowry system to be abolished from society: Minister Thapa

KATHMANDU: Minister for Women, Children and Social Welfare Tham Maya Thapa has vowed to bring in new programmes to abolish child marriages and dowry system from the society.

Speaking at an interaction programme ogranised on the occasion of 108th International Women's Day in Capital today, Minister Thapa said "Stern actions will be taken against the rapist."

UML leader Thapa have also appealed victims to call at a toll free number 1145 and government is committed to take stern against those involved in heinous crimes.

Thapa, who was elected to the National Assembly from UML under the proportional representational category, hasĀ  urged all the concerned authorities to be sensitive in curbing the violence against women in the society.

"For building prosperous and just society women should have access to responsible authority." Thapa opined.

We hit the streets and parliament to secure 33 per cent women representation in all level of the government. It's important achievement. "Now its time for the implementation." Thapa stressed.

Meanwhile, the statue have guaranteed 33 per cent women representation in all forms of government in the country.
