Chitwan parties distribute relief to quake-hit

CHITWAN: Political parties in the district on Thursday began distribution of relief amounts to the victims of April 25 earthquake.

The parties had jointly collected the relief support in the district following the disastrous quake.

Earlier, political parties of the district had formed a 23-member committee to collect financial assistance for the earthquake victims. The committee has collected Rs 5.9 million till the date.

The District Natural Disaster Rescue Committee of Chitwan stated that the earthquake damaged 3,725 houses partially and12,024 houses fully in the district while 416 households have shifted to safety.

Today, the distribution programme was begun from Chandi Bhanjayang VDC by giving Rs1,500 to each family whose house was fully damaged by the massive earthquake.

The committee office secretary as well as Nepali Congress (NC) district secretary, Jit Narayan Shrestha, informed that they had handed Rs 394,000 to 263 families of the Chandi Bhanjayang VDC.

Likewise, the committee had also handed Rs 1.8 million to the 1,163 families of Darechok VDC.

NC district president Tek Prasad Gurung, CPN-UML chairman JN Thapaliya, UCPN-Maoist chairman Yam BahadurĀ  Pariyar, RPP-Nepal chairman Badri Timalsina and RPP chairman Ram Hari Kudela among others were presented in the distribution programme.

It is reported that the collected amount will be distributed to the other affected ones and the balance will be deposit at the Prime Minister National Relief Fund.
