BIRGUNJ: The agreement reached among the four major political forces on Saturday midnight regarding the demarcation of purported federal states has sparked wide protests in Bara and Parsa districts.

Madhesh-based parties have started staging demonstration against the agreement claiming it was against the Madhesh's interest.

Cadres of the Tarai Madhesh Loktantrik Party (TMLP) on Sunday afternoon burnt the revised draft constitution and map of the proposed Pradheshes during a protest programme organised. Secretary General of the party Jitendra Sonal, also a lawmaker, led the protest.

The protestors chanted slogans against the four political forces and the government.

Later, while addressing a corner meeting, Sonal said that the draft of constitution revised by the four parties and carving out six-state federal units were against the Madheshis.

Other political parties also staged demonstrations in Birgunj today.

The demonstrators burnt the effigies of Prime Minister and Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala, CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli, UCPN-Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Madhesi Janadhikar Forum-Democratic (MJF-D) Chairman Bijay Kumar Gachhadar.

After a marathon meeting, the Constitutional-Political Dialogue and Consensus Committee's Special Committee, comprising the four leaders, had signed the breakthrough agreement yesterday midnight with an understanding to carve out six federal units and incorporate the provision to grant citizenship from father or mother's name.
