'Constitution amendment sans implementation meaningless'

KATHMANDU: The CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli on Thursday commented that the purported Constitution amendment would be meaningless if the current government would not take any step toward the implementation of statute.

The leader of the main opposition party in the Parliament made the comment today, claiming the incumbent government led by the CPN-Maoist Centre Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal in alliance with the largest political party at the House, Nepali Congress, was not serious toward implementing the Constitution.

Further, he claimed that no any leader or party in the government had talked with his party about the Constitution amendment formally.

"No one has proposed it," he told journalists at the Tribhuvan International Airport today, "I just heard that some parties made some contracts (about it)."

Ruling parties - CPN MC and NC - have signed a deal with the United Democratic Madhesi Front and the Federal Alliance assuring that the government would bring a bill for the amendment in order to address their concerns.

Meanwhile, Oli said the current government would not perform well as it had so far claimed.

"He (PM Pushpa Kamal Dahal) has not been able to form the Cabinet completely as one month (since his election to the post) is about to complete," he questioned, "What would he do any more?"

"He is worried about his own cadres. (I wonder) when he begins to worry about the nation."

Meanwhile, Oli left for Bangkok of Thailand on a medical trip today. He is scheduled to undergo a regular health check-up at the Bumrungrad International Hospital in Bangkok of Thailand.

The former PM is scheduled to return home on coming Monday, September 5.

Oli is accompanied by his wife Radhika Shakya and personal secretary Rajesh Bajracharya.
