Constitution attempts to promote women's rights: President Bhandari
KATHMANDU: President Bidya Devi Bhandari has said the new Constitution has tried its best to strengthen the rights of women, encouraging the entire women community.
In a greetings wishes on the eve of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, on Tuesday, the President underlined the need of formulating women-friendly new Acts, policies and programmes.
Every year, November 24 is observed as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women across the world at the call of the United Nations General Assembly. Nepal is celebrating the Day by organising various programmes tomorrow.
"People's long aspirations for drafting the constitution through the Constituent Assembly have been fulfilled with the promulgation of the Nepal's constitution- 2015," the President said in the message, underlining the need of exercising the rights of all class and community incorporated in the new constitution."
Women, whose population makes up over 50 per cent of the total, are being discriminated socially, economically and culturally; and we are all aware of this fact. In this context, holistic development of the women was essential for the development of a house, society and ultimately the entire country, the message expressed.
The President further wishes- May this Day inspire all to eliminate all sorts of violence and suppression against women and thereby building a civilised society.
