Construction of 60 megawatt Upper Trishuli III ‘A’ likely to resume soon
Kathmandu, November 25
Construction of the Upper Trishuli III A Hydropower project, halted since the earthquakes last year, is likely to resume.
The 60 MW project was slated to be completed last year. But earthquake-triggered landslides had damaged the project’s infrastructure and the access road linking Simle, where the project’s powerhouse is located, to the reservoir site.
The project was being implemented with financial assistance from Export-Import Bank of China. The bank, on the request of Ministry of Finance, has agreed to extend the deadline for loan payment by five years.
In a meeting with representatives of the finance and energy ministries and Nepal Electricity Authority, the Chinese side agreed to resume the project.
China Gezhouba Group Co Ltd, the company that was awarded the contract for developing the project, is slated to resume the construction by the second week of December, said project chief Phanidraraj Joshi.
The government would release a budget of Rs 610 million to construct embankments on both sides of the Trishuli River, where the project is based.
