CPN-MC wins all seats in Rukum East

The left alliance swept the provincial and parliamentary elections in Rukum East.

CPN-Maoist Centre parliamentary candidate and former home minister Janardan Sharma crushed his closest rival Gopalji Jung Shah of Nepali Congress, bagging 34,402 votes against Shah’s 15,659 votes. Of a total 55,385 ballots cast in the election in the constituency, 51,915 were valid.

CPN-MC’s Gopal Sharma was elected to the provincial assembly from the constituency ‘Kha’ garnering 18,649 votes while his closest rival Khadka Dangi of NC could muster only 8,127 votes. Likewise, the party’s candidate from the constituency ‘Kha’ Rato Kami was elected to the state assembly with 16,810 votes. He defeated NC’s Krishna Bahadur Roka by a comprehensive margin of 8,233 votes. Of a total 27,174 ballots cast, 25,859 were valid in the constituency.

Meanwhile, vote count is in progress of all three parliamentary constituencies of Dang where left alliance candidates are in the lead, as of today evening.

UML Standing Committee member Shankar Pokhrel and party leader Amar Bahadur Dangi emerged the winners from Dang Constituency 2 ‘Ka’ and ‘Kha’ respectively.  Pokhrel defeated NC’s Kamal Kishor Ghimire with a wide margin while Dangi outpolled Bharat Bahadur Neupane also from NC.
