CPN-Revolutionary Maoist to take part in local polls

KATHMANDU: The CPN-Revolutionary Maoist led by Mohan Baidya, which had boycotted the second Constituent Assembly Election, is participating in the local level elections slated for May 14 and June 14.

Although it is not contesting in the elections under the party's name, it is doing so in the name of the Patriotic People's Republican Front, which it constituted under the leadership of one of its leaders, CP Gajurel.

The CPN-Revolutionary Maoist has not been assigned the election symbol by the Election Commission as the party is not represented in the Parliament.

However, the candidates contesting in the local level elections would be vying for different local level offices as independent candidates.

In a press release issued on Saturday, party chairman Mohan Baidya said although the party has not taken part in the local level elections, it has adopted the policy of supporting the Patriotic People's Republican Front Nepal.

He has also urged workers, peasants, women, Dalits, indigenous nationalities, Madhesi, the backward and intellectuals to vote the Front's candidates.
