UML candidate Shakya wins KMC mayoral race

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML candidate Bidhya Sundar Shakya has won the mayoral race of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City on Sunday.

UML's Shakya won the race by securing 19,654 more votes than that of Nepali Congress candidate Raju Raj Joshi.

Shakya received 64,913 votes against 45,259 votes of Joshi.

Meanwhile, Nepali Congress candidate Hari Prabha Khadgi has been elected deputy mayor of the KMC.

Khadgi garnered 58,952 votes while her nearest competitor Rajaram Shrestha of Rastriya Prajatantra Party received 34,854 votes.

KMC's Chief Returning Officer Jitendra Adhikari announced the results at the City Hall in Pradarshani Marg of Kathmandu today morning.

Total 197,227 votes were cast in KMC where 6,183 votes were invalid.
