UML chair meets president

Kathmandu, December 15

CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli today held a meeting with President Bidhya Devi Bhandari to discuss contemporary issues.

During the meeting, President Bhandari commended the role played by the government and political parties to ensure successful and peaceful elections for federal and provincial assemblies, according to Chetan Adhikari, Oli’s personal aide.

Oli’s meeting with the president came at a time when there are differences between the Nepali Congress and UML over the ordinance related to the election of the National Assembly.

The Sher Bahadur Deuba-led government has forwarded the ordinance to the president, proposing single transferable vote system that gives opposition parties a chance to get their members elected to the upper house. But the UML is in favour of forming the government first, and the new government would frame laws to govern the process of the National Assembly election.

Yesterday, PM Deuba had met the president and requested her to endorse the ordinance related to the election of the National Assembly, according to the PM’s press coordinator Govinda Pariyar.
