UML politburo mulls action against Mainali

Kathmandu, February 15

CPN-UML leaders today discussed action against party leader Radha Krishna Mainali for allegedly tarnishing the image of the party and its leader’s in his recently published book Unwritten History.

Speaking at the party’s ongoing politburo meeting held at party headquarter in Dhumbarahi, senior UML leader Madhav Kumar Nepal demanded action against Mainali.

Former prime minister Nepal said that Mainali had made false claims and accused the party and its leadership wrongly in his newly published book. He also proposed that the party should refute the allegations levelled against party leaders in his book and take disciplinary action against Mainali.

Other leaders, who spoke after Nepal, also demanded disciplinary action against Mainali, according to UML leader Banshidhar Mishra. In response to the demands of the politburo member, UML Chair KP Sharma Oli said that he too found hatred and frustration in Mainali’s book against the UML and its leadership.

Mainali, who was also the founding member of CPN-UML, claimed in his book that leader Nepal had proposed to call the Indian army and bring munitions from India to dethrone the king in a meeting held at Chyasal, Kathmandu, but late Madan Bhandari had outright rejected Nepal’s proposal.

Earlier, Oli briefed the meeting about contemporary political developments, his recent meeting with the Prime Minister Puspa Kamal Dahal and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba.

The UML politburo meeting will continue tomorrow.
