Head Constable killed as bandh enforcers attack security personnel in Bardiya

NEPALGUNJ: A policeman was killed during a clash that erupted between security personnel and protesters  at Mainapokhar in Bardiya district of western Nepal on Friday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Nepal Police Head Constable Dev Bahadur Pandey of Pyuthan.

According to SP Govinda Pariyar of the District Police Office, Bardiya,  a group of bandh enforcers who brandished lethal weapons had attacked security personnel at Mainapokhar at around 8 am today.

Pandey was fatally attacked when the security personnel tried to protect two night buses from the fury of bandh enforcers.

In response, security personnel fired dozens shots in air and lobbed tear gas shells to disperse the violent mob.

Critically injured after being impaled by lethal weapons, apparently spears, Pandey was rushed to Nepalgunj Medical College Teaching Hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to SP Pariyar.

He had  bled excessively.

Earlier, seven security personnel were lynched by a mob in neighbouring Kailali district during violent demonstrations staged by supporters of Tharuhat province. A policeman succumbed to injuries later while a two-year-old boy was also killed in the incident.

Recently, five people were killed in Parsa and one in Kalaiya in police action during violent protesters.
