Curfew clamped in Rukumkot

RUKUM (EAST): A curfew order has been imposed at district headquarters, Rukumkot, after disputing on the location of headquarters turned a nasty turn.

The District Administration Office Rukum (East) issued the curfew order effective from 7:00 pm on Sunday until another notice.

With the continuous protests from locals of Rukumkot and Golkhadam, the district administration resorted to clamping curfew to curb possible untoward incidents.

Chief District Officer Mitra Lal Sharma said the order was to ban assembly, rally, gathering and demonstration in the area.

The curfew is in force in Dhaulapahira area in the east, Ranikot area of Sisnet-5 in the west, Rukumgad to Dhaune areas of Sisne-6 in the north, and from Shahipark to Rumalbara area of Sisne-5 in the south.

Rukumkot has turned to a battlefield due to scuffle in regard to the location of district headquarters.

Last year, on January 25, Sher Bahadur Deuba-led government had decided to make Uttarganga Rural Municipality the headquarters of the district while a petition was filed in Supreme Court against the decision on January 31. Subsequently, hearing the case which is still running, the SC ruled not to change the headquarters.

Meanwhile, Rukumkot has turned to a battlefield due to scuffle in regard to the location of district headquarters.
