Death toll from alcohol poisoning reaches six in Malaysia

KATHMANDU: The death toll of Nepali migrant workers from consumption of toxic liquor has reached six in Malaysia till this morning.

Another 17 were seriously sickened following consumption of the spurious hooch in Selangor State of Malaysia. According to Chargé D'affaires of Embassy of Nepal in Malaysia, Kumar Raj Kharel, the seriously ill are being treated in local hospitals.

Five of the Nepali workers passed away in Sungai Buloh Hospital. Nine among the sickened are receiving treatment at the same hospital.

Likewise, one died during the course of treatment at Kajang Hospital. Five others are undergoing treatment there, Kharel informed. Similarly, one person each is being treated at Byangting, Ampang and Kiang Hospitals of Malaysia.

Nepali Embassy has mobilised two teams to facilitate the treatment of Nepali migrant workers in different hospitals of Malaysia.
