Dhangadhi mayor challenges MPs to take action against him

Dhangadhi, September 28

Dhangadhi Sub-metropolitan City Mayor Nrip Bahadur Wad today challenged Provincial Assembly lawmakers to take action against him.

As many as 22 lawmakers of Province 7 had filed a case with Kailali District Administration Office seeking action against him yesterday.

At the protest programme organised by locals against the proposed name and permanent headquarters of the province on Wednesday, Mayor Wad had warned lawmakers to leave Dhangadhi within 24 hours, if Dhangadhi was not made permanent headquarters. Wad claimed that Godwari was recommended as the permanent headquarters of the province in collusion with forest and land mafias. After a case was filed at the DAO, Wad said that he was ready to sacrifice himself for the rights of the locals. He said the government that failed to arrest those who burnt the copies of the statute and remarked that Madhes was not in Nepal was conspiring against him.

Wad claimed that lawmakers of Province 7 had submitted the proposal on the name and permanent headquarters to the PA to overshadow the investigation into Nirmala Pant’s rape and murder.

“I urge the locals not to weaken the agitation simply because a case has been filed against me”, Wad said. He accused the government of moving towards totalitarianism. “The communist government is seizing the right to freedom of expression,” he claimed.
