BHOJPUR: A six-year-old child was critically injured after being hit by a bus in Hile Bazaar of Dhankuta district on Friday.

Local Chohan Gurung was hit by the bus (Ko 1 Kha 3782) en route to Dharan of Sunsari district from Leguwa of Dhankuta district at New Road of Hile at around 11 today.

Critically injured Gurung was initially taken to the Dhankuta District Hospital and was later referred to Dharan-based BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences for further treatment.

Following the incident, kin and locals of the area had obstructed the road and protested by burning tyres, demanding immediate action and compensation, Chief of Hile Police Station, Dukhan Yadav, said.

A police team has been deployed to take the situation under control, the Dhankuta District Police Office spokesperson Prabinlal Shrestha informed.

Meanwhile, police have impounded the bus and have arrested its driver for further investigation.
