Dozens of families at risk of landslides in Bajura

BAJURA: Landslides due to incessant rainfall in different parts have put many human settlements at a high risk of displacement.

As many as 12 families in Sallena in Badimalika Municipality-2 of the district are living under a constant threat of being buried by landslides.

Locals have demanded that concerned authorities immediately relocate them.

Bhanu Bhakta Jaisi of the locality informed that they are spending nights under the open sky as landslides likely to bury their houses anytime.

More than 50 families in Aatichaur, Gumlagaun, Gudukhati, Brahmatola and Bajedi villages stay awake overnight if it rains, he added.

The villagers claimed that the authorities turned deaf ears to their demand for relocation.

Rin Chadara of Barhabis in the district said anxiety of survival haunts locals of his community in every monsoon. "Neither do we have extra land to shift," he lamented.

Every year, dozens of people lose their lives to landslides in the district.
