Drug abuse rampant in Mahottari district

District Police Office, Mahottari, has revealed that there has been a significant rise in the number of narcotic drug users in the district in the past few years.

As per statistics, 45 cases related to drug abuse and trafficking were registered in the fiscal  2017/18. Similarly, drug abuse cases registered in the fiscal year 2016/17 and 2015/16 were 25 and 17 respectively. As many as 14 cases were registered from Bardibas Municipality area in the fiscal 2017/18, police said. This area had witnessed the highest number of drug abuse cases registered  in the preceding two years as well.

According to police, Bardibas area is considered very sensitive as those dealing in narcotics and trafficking have made the place their hub. Police report shows cannabis and pharmaceutical drugs were smuggled from Makawanpur and from Indian border towns like Kanhama and Bhittamod.

Youths between 15 and 30 years of age are found to be involved in drug trafficking and abuse.
