Eight persons killed in separate road accidents

Eight persons died in separate road accidents that occurred in different parts of the country last night.

Four persons each died in road accidents in Sindhupalchok and Sankhuwasabha. As many as three persons died on the spot after a Bolero jeep fell 200 metres below the road in Melamchi Municipality, Sindhupalchowk, last night.

The deceased have been identified as Suresh Tamang, 35, Moti Adhikari, 42, and Kamal Syangbo, 12. Police said Tamang, Adhikari and Syangbo were the only passengers in the jeep.

Similarly, one person died on the spot while four others were injured after a bus met with an accident in Helambu Rural Municipality,Sindhupalchowk the same night. The deceased has been identified as Mahendra Bhujel of Indrawati Rural Municipality. He was the conductor of the bus.

Police said the injured have been taken to Dhulikhel Hospital for treatment. The bus turned turtle on the edge of the road while it was on the way to Helambu from Kathmandu.

Likewise, at least three persons died after a tractor met with an accident in Chainpur Municipality, Sankhuwasabha yesterday.

The deceased have been identified as Rajendra Rai, 37, Harka Bahadur Rai, 32, and Tanka Poudel, 18, of Madi Municipality. Police said the tractor carrying electric poles for Piluwakhola Hydropower fell 50 metres below the road. Rajendra and Harka died on the spot. Tanka died in the course of treatment at District Hospital, said police.

Similarly, one more person died after he fell from a moving tractor in Chichila Rural Municipality, in Sankhuwasabha. The deceased has been identified as Krishna Bahadur Thapa, 57, of the rural municipality. Police said a critically injured Thapa died while undergoing treatment at District Hospital. Police has taken the tractor and its driver under control and further investigation into the incident is under way, said police.
