Election Commission ready to hold election

PHALEBAS: Chief Election Commissioner Dr Ayodhi Prasad Yadav has said the Election Commission is ready to hold elections in the country.

Speaking at the foundation stone laying ceremony of a new building of the District Election Office, Parbat today, and Commissioner said the Election Commission is in touch with the government regarding the issue of announcing the poll date with no further delay.

Stating that the date for any election should be announced before 100 days of the poll date, he called on the government to declare the election date by formulating necessary laws soon.

It was the responsibility of Nepalis to create a ground for holding the election in a free, fair and neutral atmosphere. Anyone found guilty in the violation of election code of conduct would be brought to book, he asserted.

The CEC took the opportunity to urge eligible people who have yet to register their names in the biometric voters' list to do so instantly.

On the occasion, he laid a foundation stone of a new building of the office which is currently running in a rented house in the area. The construction cost of the building is estimated to be Rs 29 million.
