Elephant attacks, kills new caretaker at CNP

CHITWAN: A domesticated elephant at Chitwan National Park attacked and killed its caretaker on Thursday.

The elephant locally known as Moti Prasad (kha) stamped 35-year-old Bahuri Lal Sardar of Kusha-8, Sunsari to death, informed Information Officer and Assistant Conservation Officer Nurendra Aryal.

Sardar along with another caretaker had ridden the elephant to the forest to cut and fetch grass. After loading the grass, Sardar slipped and fell off and the tusker stamped him to death. Meanwhile, the other caretaker promptly climbed a tree to save himself.

Sardar was hired and was assigned to care Moti Prasad (kha) by CNP only 10 days ago.
