Energy security workshop kicks off

Kathmandu, October 8

An international workshop on energy security and energy market integration in the South Asia region kicked off today.

Experts from Nepal, Bhutan, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Sir Lanka are participating at theĀ  two-day workshop.

Director of Centre for South Asian Studies Nischal Nath Pandey said that energy security in South Asia was a significant aspect of this region.

Director-General of Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka Damitha Kumarasinhe, Managing Director of Tata Power Trading Company limited of Uttar Pradesh Sanjeev Mehra, Chief Executive in Indus Clean Energy of Karachi Ghulam Murtaza Uqaili and Head of Energy Department in Kabul University Najib Rahman Sabory gave presentations on the energy scenario in their respective countries and focused on the topic of reshaping the energy security landscape in South Asia.

The programme was jointly organised by Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung and Consortium of South Asian Think Tanks.

The workshop will focus on options for further regional integration of national energy markets to enhance energy security in South Asia.
