‘Enforce code on building’

Kathmandu, July 11

The Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration has directed all local level governments to enforce the basic construction standard relating to habitat development, urban plan and building construction, 2015.

The directive to all the local level units was dispatched today in response to increasing public complaints regarding weak enforcement of the building code, section officer at the ministry Bishnu Shrestha said.

The standard requires enforcement of the employment of architect or engineer to supervise the building design, infrastructure and construction and for the local levels to employ their technician to recommend the construction-related works. Likewise, soil testing is mandatory for construction of a building that is of three or more storeys.

The district natural disaster relief committee is to identify the risk zones in the district.
