Fish worth Rs 5 mil die in “poisoned pond”

BARA: Fish worth Rs 5 million died at Kairaiya Mai rural municipality in the district after an unidentified group poisoned a fishery on Friday night.

According to Fisheries Entrepreneurs’ Association Bara Chair Jung Bahadur Sah, around 25,000 fingerlings and adult fish died of poisoning in the pond owned by association’s Treasurer Dipak Paswan.

Paswan who operates fishery for both adult and juvenile fish in 2 Bighas of land was a new market entrant with no insurance coverage.

“We recovered an empty can of Indocin (Indomethacin) drug from the incident site,” said Sah.

Following the incident, the association issued a statement today demanding action against the guilty.
