Five killed, 62 hurt in separate road accidents

Five persons died and 62 others were injured in separate road accidents in Sindhuli and Nuwakot on Friday.

Three persons died and six others were injured in Sindhuli while two persons lost their lives and 56 were injured in Nuwakot.

A commuter bus heading for Kathmandu from Sindhuli’s Marin Rural Municipality went out of control and fell some 300 metres down into the Sunkoshi River at Rithhebhir of Sunkoshi Rural Municipality along the BP Highway while trying to save a motorbike coming from the opposite direction.

According to District Police Office, Sindhuli, one person died on the spot while two others breathed their last while undergoing treatment in Dhulikhel Hospital.

The deceased has been identified as Rabi Bhandari, 29. He had died on the spot. Bus driver Raj Kumar Lama and Amit Lama died in course of treatment at Dhulikhel. Eight persons were traveling in the bus.

Five bus passengers and motorcyclist Devendra BK were injured in the incident. They are being treated at Dhulikhel Hospital. Of the injured, the condition of two is said to be critical. As many as 41 persons had lost their lives in a  bus accident at the same place some seven years ago.

Likewise, Balaram Tiwari and Minu Tamang died on the spot when a bus met with an  accident at Machhapokhari of Suryagadhi Rural Municipality-5, Nuwakot.

The bus en route to Trishuli from Dupcheswor Rural Municipality went out of control and plunged into Chheri Khola. Fifty-six people were injured in the accident. Of them, the condition of 17 is said to be critical. The critically injured were airlifted to Kathmandu for treatment. Others are being treated at Nuwakot District Hospital.

Lawmaker Hit Bahadur Tamang and Provincial Assembly member Badri Mainali from Nuwakot reached the district hospital and took stock of the injured.
