Foreign Minister Mahat attends Constitution Day celebration in UN HQ

NEW YORK: Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat attended a special celebration marking the first anniversary of the promulgation of the Nepal Constitution in the United Nations headquarters in New York on Friday.

The programme was organised by the Permanent Mission of Nepal to the United Nations on the sidelines of the 71st Session of UN General Assembly.

Addressing the ceremony, Foreign Minister Mahat stated that the new constitution of Nepal,which was promulgated through the Constituent Assembly, was inclusive and the best national charter across the globe.

Mahat, who is leading the Nepali delegation to the ongoing UNGA, reaffirmed the commitment to move ahead enforcing the new national statute.

No sooner Mahat advocated that the women should also lead the government in Nepal, his statement received a round of applause from the representatives of the member-states of the United Nations.

The event was attended by the Foreign Ministers of various countries, heads and representatives of the diplomatic missions in New York, Nepali community in America, including Jeffrey Feltman, UN Under-Secretary for Political Affairs.

On the occasion, UN Under-Secretary Feltman expressed his confidence that the event would be successful in shining a light on Nepal.

Moreover, Feltman, on behalf of United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, extended the best wishes to Nepal on the occasion of the Constitution Day.

Permanent Representative of Nepal to the UN, Durga Prasad Bhattari expressed his happiness over the celebration of the Constitution Day during the annual event of the UN.
