Four die in Simikot truck accident

SIMIKOT: The death toll of Simikot truck accident, caused by driving under the influence of alcohol, has reached four after a critically injured patient died at District Hospital, Humla, on Thursday. Thirteen others were injured in the accident.

The deceased have been identified as Bhakta Rokaya of Simikot Rural Municipality, Tshering Karma Lama and Nori Lama, both of Namkha Rural Municipality-1 and Babarjung Shahi of Kharpunath Rural Municipality-1.

According to police, the incident occurred when a tipper truck skidded approximately 30 metres off the road at Lagradanda in Simikot Rural Municipality of Humla district on Wednesday evening.

The truck (Lu 4 Kha 3269) carrying rice and other necessities supplied by the Nepal Food Corporation was headed towards Simikot.

The injured, most of whom are in serious condition, are receiving treatment at the district hospital, added police. Locals had handed over the truck driver, Ananda Tamang, to the police.

Minister for Social Development of Karnali Province, Dal Rawal, visited the injured at the hospital on Wednesday night.

Further investigation into the case is underway, said police.
