Fraudster held for swindling Rs 1.2 m in pretext of sending to Portugal

KATHMANDU: A man has been held on charge of swindling Rs 1.2 million fromĀ  a foreign job aspirant in pretext of sending him for lucrative jobs in Portugal on Wednesday.

In a statement today Metropolitan Crime Division said 32-year-old Jaya Prakash Buda of Sunchahari Rural Municipality-2 in Rolpa district was arrested yesterday from Newbus park area in Gangabu.

Police in civic-es had apprehended Buda from the area around 2 pm yesterday.

Conman Buda had assured of lucrative jobs and greener pasture in Portugal with monthly salary of Rs 80,000. He then collected Rs 1.2 million from his gullible target for sending him to Europe as stated in the statement.

Buda then flew his target to Dubai and kept him there for two months before flying to Portugal via Iraq. However, the victim was caught by Iraqi authorities of using fake visa and was subsequently deported to Nepal, it said in a statement.

The victim then resorted to MCD after realising that he was being duped by Buda.

Meanwhile, police have sent the suspect to the Kathmandu Metropolitan Police Range for further investigation and action today itself, as stated in the statement.

Buda was operating a Gama Travel and Tours in Gangabu of Tokha Municipality-11 in Kathmandu Metropolitan City, according to police.

It has been learned that the conman had also assured his target of sending to South Africa for employment after landing in Kathmandu.
