‘Government has failed to meet people’s expectations’

Pokhara, August 31

Nepali Congress central member Prakashman Singh has accused the government of tilting towards authoritarianism in the name of two-thirds majority.

“The government trusted by the people is expected to be loyal to them. It must respect democratic and constitutional norms and values, but if we’re to see the performance so far, the government has apparently failed to meet this popular expectation of the general public,” said the NC leader, speaking at a press meet organised by Press Union, Kaski, today.

“It’s pity to see how a party that rose to power by pledging to bring prosperity in the nation, has made people’s daily life difficult by imposing unnecessary taxes and making daily purchases way more expensive,” he added.

Further, Singh took exception to the prime minister’s remarks that blamed the opposition for hindering the government work. “How phony are these accusations that the opposition has frustrated the government in its good works by a man who has derided the opposition for failing to perform the role of a strong opposition?” he asked. “Actually, we’ve obstructed the House and hit the streets only for genuine reasons, when the government failed to ensure justice to the victims of rape and murder,” he said.

On a different note, the NC leader informed of the preparations to amend the party statute in line with the federal set-up of the country.
