Govt to provide Rs 1 mln compensation to Raut family

SAPTARI: The government has decided to provide Rs one million as compensation to the family of Rajeev Raut (35) of Bhardaha-1 in Saptari district, who was killed on August 18 after police opened fire during a demonstrations called by the United Democratic Madhesi Front, protesting delineation of federal states.

Chief District Officer Birendra Kumar Yadav told the Rastriya Samachar Samiti that a letter with the decision of providing compensation to the family of Raut and treatment expenses to the injured was received from the Capital.

It may be noted that a six-point agreement had been signed three days ago between the agitation committee formed following the death of Raut and the local administration.

They had agreed to provide Rs 2 million compensation to the family of Raut, formation of a high-level probe committee, permanent job to the widow of Raut and free education to their two children, among others.

Coordinator of Agitation Committee, Dinesh Kumar Yadav, said that they would continue the agitation until all their demands were addressed.
