Human trafficking a challenging issue: Koirala

Province 3 Governor Anuradha Koirala today said human trafficking was a major challenge facing the country.

Speaking at a programme organised to mark 13th National Day Against Human Trafficking in Hetauda, Koirala said the government should pay special attention to control activities of human traffickers who were operating under various guise. “Nepal may be a poor country, however, poverty is not the cause of human trafficking here. Rather lack of education, gender inequality and joblessness are some of the factors contributing to human trafficking,” she added.

Koirala stressed the need to create jobs to reduce trafficking of girls and women. She said Province 3 government had incorporated polices to help prevent human trafficking.

At the programme, Province 3 Minister of Social Development Yubaraj Dulal said the government had initiated various campaigns to check human trafficking.
